Fever, Bites, And Pain, Oh My!

My little guy is not feeling well at all.  Thanks to Tropical Storm Fay (ie: all that rain that became standing water) intensified our mosquito problem.  We aren’t exactly living in the middle of the city, so breeding ground for mosquitoes is plentiful – without the assistance of Tropical Storm rain volumes.  Any hoo, shortly after the worst of the weather left us, and apparently while I blinked, my poor little guy was attacked on all sides by those pesky beings and has bumps ALL. OVER. HIM.  It itches (we are doing what we can to relieve it) and is obviously quite uncomfortable.

At some other moment when I blinked (really, there should be something on the market that moms of two year olds can take to avoid blinking… this would solve so much!), he must have bitten the inside of his lip.  While eating?  Did he stumble and the lip biting thing happen during the process?  At first I was thinking it might be a fever blister, but we are leaning toward him biting it.  Not 100% though.

His eyes are a little reddish.  Irritated?  Tired?  He has been up A LOT Saturday night and Sunday night – so miserable.  Not sure exactly what to make of his eyes, but just being plain old tired would make sense since he’s had very little sleep compared to what he truly needs (and even what he is used to getting).

Fever.  Oh yes, the list continues.  The other night… Saturday night?  He woke up with a 101.7 temperature.  Oh, he was hot!  I started him on meds, including teething drops because he keeps saying his mouth hurts (where he bit his lip?) and sometimes says teeth (or points further in than his lip).

Thankfully, we have a Dr’s appointment already scheduled for tomorrow (to catch up on shots and such  – shh… I know I got behind… it was a bad mom moment and shouldn’t have happened, but at least we can catch up).  I’m praying that this isn’t the first time they’ve seen a kidlet all eaten up with mosquito bites (oh it looks so terrible I could cry, bless his heart).  I swear we haven’t even played outside since the storm came on us.  We are still having lots of rain everyday, and the ground is super mushy.

We did walk to the mailbox (he loves riding down to the main road in his stroller) but I kept checking and only once did I see one on him and he was saying, “bug!”, LOL.  He’s otherwise only been outside long enough to go from the front door to the car.  We’ve opened the door as is normal, but not excessively.  I really have no idea how he got so eaten up with them and it drives me crazy.

I’ve been thinking of a nickname for him to use on the blog, but so far I haven’t hit upon the one that just feels right.  I’m afraid my personal nickname for him will, in years to come, just won’t be quite boyish enough.  Although he’ll always be my “Sweet Pea”.  The Little Racer, perhaps?  If you’ve been around this blog for, oh, say 5 seconds or so, you’ve probably come across his mantra – Cars. Vroom. Vroom.  (Yes, he seriously says it with the full stop for emphasis sake.)

Anyway, that’s a little update on my little guy.  Now to see how the Dr. appointment goes.

Christy-
Did you take him to the dr yet? With all the symptoms you describe, I’m afraid if you put them all together, it might be something other than bug bites and tired eyes and teething. If it were only one symptom, it would probably be one of those things, but since they are all there, it makes me wonder…I hope you get him in soon. Could it be chicken pox since he is behind on his shots? I’m not a dr, just a mom of 4, but I am curious….I hope all is okay and it is nothing!

Jessica… We started doing exactly what you said… putting things together… and were starting to lean toward thinking it was a rash of sorts… turns out it is Chicken Pox. I’ve posted an update.

Chicken pox is one hell of a nasty disease, it ruined my flawless skin a couple of years ago.”`.
