.
I was just sitting here, minding my own business, when suddenly there was a loud crash in the kitchen. There was no mistaking the sound. Luckily I got there at the same moment my son did and I was able to keep him away from the 27 trillion shards of glass. That. Was. Everywhere. I swept. And swept again. I wiped / patted the entire floor with a wet cloth. How do you make sure you really and truly got every glass particle up?
So, now I am faced with three predicaments:
The first: Making sure none of us are stabbed or sliced while taking out the trash (the glass is in a paper bag and there was other paper packing material in the trash bag, so this might not be too big of an issue).
Next: Replacing broken items. I once thought about buying additional dishes to match our small set, but after looking high and low I could never find the company. And that was when I just wanted to, not needed to. One of the items that broke was a bowl from one of the place settings. I see shopping for new place settings in the not too far off future. Also, a glass mixing bowl (or more than one?) also broke in the process. That’s actually what caused the worst of the mess. The bowl that was part of the setting only broke in three pieces. I haven’t even figured out which bowl (or bowls) I’m “missing” yet. Guess I need to do that. I guess I see shopping for these in the future as well. Thankfully, I have quite a few of the glass mixing bowls, so I may be ok, despite the disaster. (Some from a Christmas gift since I was in need due to my son knocking two nested bowls off the end table that I had just placed there for a second when I wasn’t used to his increasing mobility.)
And finally: What to do about that darn cat that I am certain caused this whole fiasco in the first place? He has increasingly become more of a nuisance and I am not sure what to do with him. I’ve had him (and his sister) forever and can’t actually see getting rid of him, but c’mon. Something has to give. I seriously have to put him outside & close the pet door whenever I give B something to eat or he’ll try to take it (usually successfully!). Can’t have that, so outside he goes. Can’t close the pet door completely, because we actually put it up for the pup.
And how is YOUR day?

kitty hasn’t been doing that yet, its hunter with anything glassable (glass and breakable all into one.) I had 10 place settings, now I’m down to 3 or 4 bowls, and i haven’t counted the various plates, saucers, salad plates and glasses. BTW he just informed me that cavemen used water and octopus legs to wash their clothes…..what!?

I hate hate hate..when we have something break. I normally try to find some container to dispose of it in. You always have to possible think of the trash people..or do you have to take yours to the dump? I know how you country folk are..lol.
I’m so sorry Christy. And have no answers for you! What a day! Mine’s just lazy! My kids are playing so good and we are WAY off schedule. But such is life. We’ll get back there!
Check out this post from Northern Cheapskate-maybe it’ll help?

I am sorry that you are having one of those days. But just think, for every one of these days there will be many GREAT ones. Take some deep breaths and think about tomorrow. Hopefully you can enjoy the rest of your day and relax.
Ironically my last post was about my cat and why she deserved freebies too… you can ignore that since your cat is not on your good side right now…LOL
Yes, he doesn’t deserve freebies at all. LOL!! My day is actually going decently enough.. just that crazy incident earlier thanks to psycho-cat.
I’m sorry you had such a mess to deal with- hope the rest of your day was better!
Our cats respond to a squirt of water in the face as a training tool. Now if we just get the water bottle out they take off running as soon as they see it. They’re trained to stay off of counters and other places. Maybe that would help? Good luck!

I have learned a wet paper towel gets up the pieces that you can not see.
With three boys I have learned I can not have breakables until they move out, ha.
I am sorry to hear about your cat situation, I know that is frustrating.
Laurel’s last blog post: It is almost here….
Broken glass is tough to get all picked up. I use my swifter sweeper a few times over the spot the glass was. And I have yet to step on a piece of glass days later since I have started using it.
A squirt bottle with water will help train your cat to stay off the counters. I wish you luck!

Crazy thing is that this is a new issue. The cat is 11 years old, so not sure how “trainable” he’ll be, LOL.
