It has come to be that time.  B. is two years old and starting to show signs of readiness for potty training.  Huggies sent over the Potty Training Success Kit to help get us started.  Armed with a package of Pull-Ups, an informative DVD, reward stickers, and a small toy, we started on the potty training journey.  Turned out, B. wasn’t quite as ready as I thought at that time, so we took a little break and will try again soon.  Since the break, he has started showing even more interest, so we may be more successful this time.

Visit Huggies Pull-Ups Big Kid Central for articles & tools and expert advice to help you on your potty training journey.  More cool stuff: print a Pull-Ups coupon and print reward stickers!

If you would like to win your own Potty Training Success Kit, courtesy of Huggies, leave a comment a potty training tip that’s worked for you or one you’ve heard.

I’m training my twin boys right now! One tip I’ve learned with the older 2 boys I have is to be consistent and take them every couple hours.

With my girl, I put panties on her, but underneath a pull-up. That way, she would feel the discomfort of being wet, without the mess. She began to realize how it felt to need to go.

This would come in very handy for me. I am trying to train my 2 year old and it is not going so well. He will not sit still. The thing that worked with my oldest was to give him a lollipop when he used it. Not a big one just a little dum dum pop. It worked really well.

I successfully used the same routine I used for housebreaking my puppy..I sat him on the potty as soon as he woke up, again 10 to 15 minutes after each meal ( five minutes maximum), and praised him and gave him a treat each time he was successful..and another treat if he told me he needed to go..he was potty trained in two weeks, no hassle ( note: it took longer for the puppy!)

Set aside a block of time, we did it over the week break from preschool at Christmas and made it a focus (without major pressure) for the entire week. Eventually our daughter became so interested and focused on it that it happened, once she did it one time it all clicked and became a constant event. She was so proud of herself!!

Decide on a time when MOM is ready to focus on it. Then go straight to underwear, at least during the day. Also we have the child train a doll, and moms simulates accidents and successes with the doll (surprising how easy this can be!)

A good tip I learned (which I didn’t believe at the time), when your child starts lining up their toys such as hot wheel cars, they are able to start learning to potty train. It worked for us.

  49. JAllen Bowman Says:
    49

Do not let your child (at or near potty training age) see “Flushed Away”. My daughter had a major setback worrying about going down the toilet.

  50. Erica Says:

With 3 of my daughters so far, (I still have a 7 month old daughter) As soon as they wake up in the morning I would put them on the potty chair. Every child pees when they wake up. So they would be in the potty chair. I would make a HUGE deal about how AWESOME it was a give me a HIGH FIVE, soon they were excited about going to the bathroom. Works every time!!!

Money was really tight & I just couldn’t afford to buy pull ups for my dd. She was already getting on the older end for potty training, so I just went cold turkey on her. Stuck her in panties & she just had to deal with it. It took a few days & then by 2 weeks, she was accident free. Luckily it happened in August, so we spent lots of time outside. I wouldn’t recommend this for beginnings, but it worked for my hard to train dd.

We had a potty timer in our house. First it was set at about 30 minutes, and every time it would go off, we’d go potty. It was really hard, but the kids thought it was great. Then we just worked our way up to longer times. Worked like a charm! Thanks for the great contest!

It can be really frustrating to a mom, me in particular. Hang in there it will come with time. I have an older child too, he;s 8. I hope this time sticcks for me we only have been doing it for one week and it seems to be doing better only a few accidents.
