Update From Christy

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Things have been super busy around here this past week.  I’m working on the winner’s list from the gift guide (37 prizes!) & will have those posted soon.  I know the deadline to respond is fast approaching, but I’ll extend it to give you a fair chance to respond.

The Trendy Bebe Birthday Dude Tee giveaway ends tonight - so if you haven’t entered it, be sure to do so.  The Disney CD Holiday Three-Pack giveaway (3 winners!) ends on December 15, so don’t forget to enter that as well.  :)

A Moment For Me will be posted tomorrow - come by and check it out.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend! How did you celebrate the holiday & spend your weekend?

I started preparing Tuesday for the first holiday meal I’d prepare (hard to believe it is the first, but true!) & that evening we had to take a little trip to the E.R. Wednesday was very busy getting everything prepared that could be done the day before. Thursday we celebrated Thanksgiving, though my husband had to work, so had his Thanksgiving Dinner at the station, in between calls.  Lil’ Roo and I had family join us for Thanksgiving Dinner. Friday, the three of us relaxed together, I prepared for Saturday’s yard sale, and we put up our Christmas tree. It is a pre-lit tree but the strands have been going out, so we have to replace all the lights. It is kinda bare looking now. I can’t wait til we have it all lit up and decorated! Lil’ Roo is going to be so excited to see that!  I had the yard sale on Saturday, though it was very slow (I didn’t plan out signs very well (it was rushed, so the lack of turnout was partially my own fault). Suddenly it is Sunday and the week has just gone by in a blur!  :)  I ran out of laundry detergent (well, had a load or two worth left I was reserving in case of any “must wash” items) so today is laundry catch up day, in addition to a lot of misc cleaning that didn’t get done over the past few days and finally caught up with me! ;)  This upcoming week will be spent getting packed and ready for our trip to Utah!!

Be sure to come by the blog tomorrow because I will have an announcement of a very cool contest you can enter every day for 12 days & there will be a winner chosen everyday!!  Look for “12 Days Of Cleaning”! (Hint: the prize is a Dirt Devil Kwik!)

Lil’ Roo’s First Trip To The E.R.

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

It is quite late & I should be in bed.  As much as I am a night owl, I would have loved to crawl into bed hours ago, but much needed to be done and my evening was spent… elsewhere.  I’m juggling normal day to day life stuff, deadlines, and preparing to cook Thanksgiving Dinner for the very. first. time.  It is true!! Other than being frightened out of my mind, lol, it is just taking a lot to get everything planned & purchased, in addition to all the other good stuff.  There are LOTS of winners in the Holiday Gift Guide Giveaway & I will be drawing names soon, please bear with me. I’m excited myself to see who will win those fabulous prizes!!

All that said… the reason for this post…

A couple days ago I decided to organize and declutter Lil’ Roo’s closet, and a domino effect took place… when I was done, I had organized, cleaned, and decluttered the closet and the entire room.  I took pics and planned to do a Tackle It Tuesday type post, but the day got away from me…  Anyhoo…

I utilized the bottom rows of shelves in the closet for some of his toys, which meant the closet doors would now be open.  It didn’t take him long to start closing them.  I knew it was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened, so Hubs and I discussed taking the closet doors down.  Before he had a chance to do it, we heard a cry from Lil’ Roo’s bedroom and rushed (he’s still an only child so we always rush!) to his room. I scooped him up, kissed the pinched finger “all better” then he went to Daddy for more of the “all better” stuff.  Moments later, Hubs was taking down the doors.  He turned his back for a moment… (I just want to interject that this all happened so fast that I didn’t even know he took the doors down and I left Lil’ Roo’s room only a few minutes before.)

I heard another cry, much worse than the previous and was there almost instantly.  There was a little blood on his finger that we both noticed and looked like it might have been a little scratch. At this point, I’m sitting beside him and scoop him into my arms, holding him against me, kissing the little scratch.  He’s looking down… when he looks up… I just about had a heart attack.  It was the very first of what may be many like events to come.  (Skip to the next paragraph if you wanna miss the “ick” part.)  His face was covered in blood.  L  Daddy was quick to get a washcloth so I could clean his face and find the source…  a very nicely opened gash in the very center of his forehead… I was able to minimize the flow of blood and Daddy helped clean his face.

I fixed him up with Neosporin & a Bandaid and we went to work gathering things, changing (me out of now stained clothing), getting ready to take a little ride.  It wasn’t life or death, but we wanted it to heal right and with as little scarring as possible.

I have to say the E.R. department did an awesome job.  Check-in went fast because we went to the same hospital he was born in, so all his info was already there. No sooner had we sat down to wait then they were calling us back.  We had someone coming in every few minutes to get information, check the wound, numb the wound, etc; so there wasn’t this overly long lag time waiting for the Doctor.  She came in once to check it out herself, to confirm what she needed to do then left to get supplies.  The Doctor and Nurse returned and proceeded to upset my son terribly.  Bless his heart, it was not the most comfortable few minutes he’s lived through, but he really did good considering.  They used the “glue” method, so no stitches! That is a wonderful thing!

I took pictures (nothing gross, lol) but it is late, so I’ll share those in the next day or so. On a positive note, the Fisher-Price Kid Tough Portable DVD Player (that Mommy was stashing for the trip) made a star appearance and was a hit!!  It distracted him from the boo-boo and was watched all the way to the hospital, at the hospital, and on the way home.  He loves it!!  It really made the trip to the E.R. go a lot smoother.

All is well now, we just wait for the healing…

Toddler Tote Activity Set

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

We are planning a trip for December, which includes a cross-country flight.  I have been wondering how I am going to keep Lil’ Roo occupied & content during the long flights and I have found a cute activity set that I’ll be sure to stash in his carry-on bag.

You already know I love NMC Toys (say it with me: Not. Made. In. China. Gotta love that!!) – they are not a stranger to Shake The Salt!  J  One of my Lil’ Roo’s favorite toys is from NMC Toys.  Ah, but you are wanting to know about this great item that is going to be stashed in his carry-on…

The Toddler Tote Activity Set (Ages 2-5) from NMC Toys features puzzles and peg activities.  All shapes are made from Lauri Crepe Rubber. Includes large and small geometric shape puzzles with a 9″ square carrying case. I’ll warn you that the box may not hold up to a toddler, but store the pieces in a Ziploc bag & it will fit perfectly in an automobile seat pocket or under the seat for easy access (you know those moments!).

A Moment For Me 11/24

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Welcome to a brand new meme, A Moment For Me!

We are often pulled in so many directions, and juggle so many responsibilities, that we don’t often take those moments just for ourselves. This meme was created to encourage you to take a few minutes (longer if you can!) and do something you enjoy, something to relax, and/or something to pamper yourself.  Blog about it and link up your post or leave a comment. You are invited to use the comments section to encourage each other.

A couple of days ago I treated myself to a very warm bubble bath & masque.  It was simple, but wonderful.

What did you do this past week to take a moment for yourself, to relax or indulge in a little pampering?

A Moment For Me

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I’m sure it hasn’t escaped your notice that the hours in a day tick by rather quickly, then the week becomes a month… and that chances are good you may not have taken very many moments to truly take care of “you”, to give yourself a little extra pampering or just some “me time”.

There are so many responsibilities to juggle: home, marriage, kids, work (outside the home, working from home, being a domestic engineer, managing online interests, etc), and so on.

The day can be half over (or more) and you may stop to think if you have eaten anything. Never mind taking enough time out of your busy schedule to pencil in that session of “me time”.

But, what if we DID pencil that time in? What if we did make a concerted effort to do a little something special for ourselves during the week? I challenge you to do just that!

I’m starting a new meme for us to encourage each other to take a few moments each week as “me time”.  Curl up and read; take a relaxing bubble bath; get your nails done; the ideas are endless and can vary based on your personality and what relaxes you or beings you enjoyment (or both!).

The first “A Moment For Me” will be posted tomorrow and they will continue every Monday.  To join in, you can either post to your blog & link via the Mr. Linky or you can leave a comment.  You are also welcome to share “pamper” goals for the upcoming week.  Feel free to peruse the comments each week and encourage each other.

The Tote Tray

The portable tray for your portable chair!  The Tote Tray is the answer to the tailgater’s dilemma… Most tailgaters have portable folding chairs that are typically a necessity at any tailgating, sports event, or family get-together.  However, it is very common to find a tailgater trying to balance a plate of food on his lap while eating, and hoping he doesn’t make a mess of things in the process (easier said than done).  The Tote Tray provides a quick, simple, and portable solution to this problem.  Each tray assembles in seconds, and  the assembled Tote Tray is then easily secured to your portable chair in two places.  Additionally, for those chairs that don’t have cupholders, or for those who want the added stability, the Tote Tray has an optional attachable cupholder that attaches and detaches to the tray in a snap.  The Tote Tray works on both adult and child-size chairs.  When you’re ready to leave, the Tote Tray disassembles in seconds to store in the handy zippered bag.

BUY IT: The Tote Tray - $12

2K By Gingham

2K, a small company whose name was bestowed by Experimental Jetset, is totally anti-mass marketing. 2K is for people who are bored with the market and merchandise that has been controlled by mega mass-marketing brands. They have become determined to introduce the best and most unique artworks and artists to the global youth culture network through t-shirts that they recognize as one of the most informative mediums. Instead of spreading the name 2K, we attempt to gain recognition by the people through our vision of presenting artistic uniquities by artists we have met and become fond of. On the other hand, 2K differs from museum stores that tend to print on “One Size Fits All” kind of garments, leaving labels of mass t-shirt manufacturers. They carefully and seriously research garments, fabrics, cuts, and details to customize their merchandise.

Find Your Savings With FindSavings.com

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Do you plan to do any of your Christmas shopping online?  Gas prices might be dropping (Woo hoo! How wonderful is that?), but a lot of people still find that they can save time by shopping online. As we get busier and busier, it just makes sense.

When doing your online shopping, take the time to do a little research and always keep your eyes open.  Sometime online stores will post promotions right on their site, but most of the time you will need to know where to look to find “coupon codes” you can use at their online store.

A coupon code is basically like a coupon you may clip out of the paper to save $0.50 on butter, except the savings are greater and it comes in the form of a special code instead of a slip of paper.  Coupon codes may offer free shipping, or a percentage or dollar amount off your total (or sometimes off specific items).  The terms differ from coupon code to coupon code.

FindSavings.com is a great resource for coupon codes.

Some examples:

We love The Children’s Place apparel, so The Children’s Place coupon code on the sidebar at FindSavings.com jumped right out at me: Save 15% off your total purchase using code HAC8.

Target is another one of my favorites, so I checked out the Target coupon codes and found that there are offers for free shipping on a lot of products! Shipping can get pretty expensive, so anytime you can get free shipping it is a good thing!

There are MANY other stores listed, so be sure to check those out before making your online purchases!  Happy shopping!!

If you share deals and/or coupon info on your blog and would like to be added to the roundup, drop me an email.

Debt Consolidation

Are you concerned about your personal finances, and especially your debt, in this current economy?  Finances are getting a little tighter all the time, all across the board.  If you are thinking about debt consolidation as a means of getting your debt under control, I’ve come across a site that specializes in debt consolidation.

Bills.com has an overview of what debt consolidation consists of, a glossary of terms related to debt, as well as other useful information to help you explore the area of debt consolidation & get a feel if it is the right plan of action for you.

Debt Consolidation: taking multiple debt or credit lines and consolidating them into one new payoff plan. Frequently, this is a consolidation loan, provided to consolidate debts into one loan with one payment, typically shifting credit card debts to secured debt by refinancing a mortgage. It could also refer to a credit counseling or debt settlement program.

After researching the available information, you may feel that a debt consolidation loan is the best option for you.  You can use the Savings Center tool at Bills.com to find debt consolidation loan quotes.  Debt consolidation can lower your payments each month, may be a better alternative to bankruptcy or credit counseling, can create one monthly payment instead of multiple payments, and could help you become debt free fast.

As always, explore all of your options before planning a course of action.

Response From Motrin

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

I was a little disappointed that it took a bit longer for me to get a response from Motrin and that the response was not a personal one, but just from “The Information Center”, but I did want to share it and commend Motrin for taking the time to respond.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare takes feedback from parents and caregivers very seriously and we sincerely apologize for any concerns raised by a recent Motrin advertisement. We have taken immediate action to respond to these concerns and have removed the advertisement from our website. Unfortunately, it will take longer for us to remove this advertisement from magazines as several are currently on newsstands and in distribution. We are committed to addressing this situation, and we appreciate all consumers’ feedback and understanding.

Should you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-877-895-3665 or www.motrin.com.

To Be Or Not To Be A Magpie On Twitter

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Chirp, chirp!

To Be Or Not To Be A Magpie On Twitter… That is the question on Twitter today.  At least in the few snatches of time that I was able to peek at Twitter.

What is Magpie? {I asked myself as I saw tweets flying here and there.}  I tweeted about it a little bit, got tidbits of info, then went off to check it out.  It is an ad service, in a way similar to Google Ad-Sense, that tweets a “relevant” ad at the frequency you choose. The default is one per every 5 of your regular tweets, though it can be adjusted as often as once for every one of your tweets or as slow as once for every twenty of your tweets.

I admit that when I entered my Twitter ID at Magpie, I was somewhat impressed by the amount that it said I could earn. Not as much as others, maybe, but for passive income didn’t seem too shabby.

I decided to sign up for Magpie, give it a test drive, and see what happens.  I’ve read posts both for and against the idea.  I’ve also read comments and tweets from some that have been trying it and rarely have Magpie Tweet ads come through at all for them.  I’ve read some genuine concerns about the program and I’ve read that others, like me, are going to test the waters.

I will admit that I’m still on the fence.  I plan to test it out and see how it works for me (and especially how it works for those I follow as I will be seeing their Magpie ads as well).

Have you signed up for Magpie? Have you heard some of the buzz today (or recently)?  I’d love to read your thoughts, solet me know what you think.
