I emphatize with your frustration. My son has always been easy. He weaned himself from the breast, the pacifier and transitioned to his own bed only after 2 nights of crying. So I thought potty training would go the same way (which it kinda did now that I look back on it. It just didn't go at my pace!). He started pooping on the potty before 2 on a regular basis. But peeing just was hit or miss for the next year and half! We did transition to pull ups. I say transition but lets face it is just a big diaper that comes off easy! But mentally we were preparing him and encouraging him. We tried the underware around 2 1/2 but it didn't work. I just had a newborn and was getting far too frustrated. I don't think he was physically ready either. So I decided to lay off a bit but still encourage. Once he could stand up an pee he was getting more consistant. We did charts and rewards if he was successful at peeing in the potty for a certain amount of time. We bought underware that looks like Papa's and some character ones to get him excited. When he started to get more and more consistant and going on his own my husband said that is it you are wearing underwear today for at least 20mins. We put them on him allowed him to put his pull up on after 20mins, then switched back to underwear. Before the weekend was over he was wearing underwear full time. I am proud to say that he is on his 3rd week of underware only--he is 3yrs and 7m. :) It has taken a lot of time but keep on encouraging, reminding (I know my son gets very busy and puts off going), don't push getting upset will not help you or him and he will get it eventually. Let him stand up and pee if possible. We are still working on the night time peeing but that may take a while physically. He still asks to wear his pull up but we just let him know he is doing such a good job with his big boy underwear and tell him how proud we are of him and he moves on. Now that I have written a book! I do hope that you can take something encouraging out of this! Best of luck to you. Take care.

My first and most important piece of advice would be "Don't try potty training until you're ready to do it full on and not look back." Once you decide to start, do it all the way - it's frustrating for all involved to go back and forth and only kinda do it. Get rid of the diapers. Don't go to pullups. Go straight to some sort of underwear. We used training pants and plastic underwear at first and then moved to "real" underwear later as a reward. Pick a week and stay home all the time if at all possible. Take them potty regularly (every 30 to 45 minutes). As the week(s) go on, extend the time. Cheer loudly when they're dry. Don't make a big deal of it when they're not - just tell them that it's not good to wet and then move on. If needed, add in a reward that works for your child (stickers, a chart to mark successes, a small piece of candy, etc.) I have potty trained a boy and a girl and they were both about 26 months (only during the day - night took much longer). My boy was not fond of sitting on the big potty. It helped to get a seat that felt secure and had handles. But the thing that helped the most was to let him go standing up. My girl didn't mind so much. Also, I would suggest finding ways for them to be independent - leave the room for a few minutes, let them wipe, let them flush, let them decide whether to use the little potty or the big one, etc. Also, for using the big potty, I suggest steps. We have a little wooden two step that stays at the toilet until they can reach. Ok. Now that you have been overwhelmed with suggestions...I hope some of them will help.
