I’ve been thinking about starting a garden. I was reading a friend’s blog about her garden prep and talking to her and another friend (who is promising some composting instruction on her blog soon) and the more we talked, the more excited I am about this possibility. Understand though that I have a black thumb. There’s nothing green about it, LOL! Guess one of my first steps would be dealing with the soil. I have a spot in the yard in mind, and I’m thinking the shovel and I may spend some quality time out together there tomorrow!
Ideas for the soil…..
Shredded newspaper
Lint
Egg shells
Store bought fertilizer
Coffee grounds (I don’t have these, but still great to know, lol)
Earth worms!
Do you garden? Got any advice for me?? What’s the easiest thing to grow / maintain?
UPDATE: Added link to composting info above.

WOOHOOO!!! I know you can do it!! Just remember babysteps! First step being to break ground!!
potatoes are pretty easy. tomatoes are a lot of work. carrots are pretty easy too.
LaDonna – I am NOT EVEN gonna discuss carrots with you! LOL! I still have the image of your home seemingly filled to the rafters with carrots and your freezers stashed full long before you are finished cleaning, cutting, and storing them! (I know, I know, it is an awesome bounty, but a full weekend of work for just one veggie! WOW!). I’m still too lazy for all that, haha. Just wanna tinker with it.
Misty – I am excited! And I was looking at the compost bin idea of using “skids” (places seriously just give those away? ‘Cause free works for me, LOL!)
BTW, I tried talking to hubs about my idea and all he’ll comment on is me “growing venison” (i.e. him getting a good shot at the deer eating my crops!) {roll eyes} LOL!
