Five Weeks

in pregnancy

I’m about 5 weeks along right now, but don’t have the official numbers yet.  I need to double check my dates and set up an appointment with the OB.

Here is what the little one supposedly looks like right about now (adorable, huh? LOL!):

I’m actually NOT feeling pregnant (it is mentioned below, so I guess kinda typical), even though there are little signs here and there.  I am NOT YET sick as a dog 24/7 and oh so very thankful for that.  I read somewhere that it could be another couple of weeks before it sets in, but I’m hoping and praying with all my might that this one goes easy in that regard.  With Lil Roo, I was horizontal almost all. the. time. from month 1 to 5. Calling it morning sickness was a joke because it was 24/7.
The main thing that is bugging me right now is that though I’m neither having food cravings nor strong aversions, I just seem to have very little interest in food or eating.  Hello.  If you know me, you know this is bad. I love food, haha.  I don’t feel hungry, even when I should and nothing sounds particularly interesting or bothers to hit the spot (though the beef & broccoli I had last night came really close).  I just feel I can take it or leave it where food is concerned. Hopefully this passes, as long as it isn’t replaced by a long list of aversions or very strange cravings, LOL!

I was reading on Parents Connect (where I snagged the above image, with their permission) that “Many insurance plans will pay for you to have a consultation with a qualified nutritionist or dietitian, who can help you create an eating plan that will work for you”.  I’m not sure if I was aware of that with the previous pregnancy, or if our insurance would cover it, or if I just didn’t look more into it last time.  I think it is something I am interested in checking out this time.

More stuff from Parents Connect:
Your baby’s microscopic heart begins to beat this week—although it won’t be detectable with one of those cool Dopplers for a few weeks, so you’ll have to wait a little longer to hear that satisfying “whoosh-whoosh” you’re so anxious for. Here’s what else is under construction:

With the beating of the heart, blood will begin to circulate throughout the body. Your baby’s first organ system will be up and running!

The beginnings of the brain; the cardiovascular, nervous and reproductive systems; as well as all other major systems are under way.

Your baby’s new digs—the amniotic sac and the placenta (aka the hotel and the restaurant)—are still forming at this point. (Maybe you should send a housewarming gift.)

All that high-speed development and your baby is only 2 millimeters long—about the size of a sesame seed (check one out next time you’re chowing down on a bagel—you won’t believe how tiny it is!).

With all the great information out there on pregnancies, I think I’ve found a favortite because it just cracks me up: Alpha Mom’s Zero To Forty.  From the 5 Weeks entry:

Your baby:

Is about the size of a sesame seed.

Looks more like a tadpole than a human-variety baby.

Making developmental leaps and bounds by the hour like a *** GENIUS CHILD.

You:

Are totally for-real pregnant, with a positive home pregnancy test to prove it and everything.

Are definitely popping a prenatal vitamin everyday — you can pick them up at any grocery store or vitamin shop. Your doctor can also write you a prescription, but if your insurance doesn’t cover them it’s perfectly fine to buy them off the shelf.

If you don’t FEEL very pregnant yet, don’t panic. It’s early. Breast tenderness and fatigue may be all you’ve got at this point.

Oh, and yes, it is time to stop smoking, drinking, doing drugs and licking inner-city mailboxes, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Thank you for visiting the original Shake The Salt!!

how fun, Christy.

I have had that “not interested in food” hit in a couple of pregnancies. Not this one however. I usually lose about 15 pounds in the first trimester. Only to gain it and more back by the end. :)

Coca Cola spends tens of millions every year, even though it’s number one¡ just building the brand.
