I don’t typically write about current event or political type stuff, but I do sometimes wonder and think on them, just like the next person, so you just may find me dipping my toe in those waters on my blog… consider yourself warned.
Today is Day 67 of the BP Oil Spill Crisis and although I’ve watched the news and scoured the internet, I find very little that Obama has done to improve the current situation.
There is the red tape that is stalling some of the cleanup effort because of research that needs to be done… they want to make sure none of the cleanup efforts negatively affects wildlife. OK. In a perfect world, this might actually make sense. It is the very LACK of these very needed efforts that is ALLOWING danger and death to wildlife to occur. I get not throwing common sense to the wind, the efforts should be done cautiously when it comes to wildlife, but ongoing lengthy studies? While wildlife becomes more and more damaged? No. It is just a hindrance. Let those that can do what they can.
I see President Obama as a wonderful, charismatic speaker. He can bring the house down when he speaks of his vision and ideas. He moves people. But with all due respect, talk is his specialty. Action? Not so much. At least not when it comes to the recent oil spill. The blame game he is good at, and I totally agree BP needs to be held fully accountable for its actions – or lack thereof. But when Obama took so long to properly address the situation and get himself down there, it was hard to swallow. When, on Day 67, he still hasn’t done much to advance the cleanup & repair issue, I just wonder… does he feel paralyzed in the face of a real crisis?
Currently, the shores closest to where I live are not affected, but if the oil starts flowing in the gulf stream (which is already possible, but even more likely if a tropical storm of any intensity starts whipping it around), then it is only a matter of a very short time before ALL of Florida’s shores are vastly affected… as well as the potential to affect the shores of the entire East Coast. Not exactly the way I want this issue to be taken to Washington.
My heart breaks for the people affected and the poor, sweet animals that have no idea what is going on. I am concerned about the approaching tropical system – and those that will comes behind it – and what they will do to this already desperate situation.

What is one person supposed to do with one of the most scary environmental catastrophes that has happened?
I don’t want to blindly defend Obama, but I seriously wonder how much accountability the opposition would have placed on oil.
And yes, the spill is so bad it totally sickens me.
He might be just “one person”, but he is the commander in chief. With the resources he has within his reach, he should have got the ball rolling immediately. And, this is no time to bring in politics or sides. This is a time for everyone to work together toward one goal, saving our oceans.
oil spills should be controlled as soon as possible to prevent environmental damage*:.
oil spills can really damage the environment so bad that it would take years to repair the damage“’
