Getting Fit In 2009

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Getting fit and eating healthier was somewhat alluded to in numbers 4, 6, and 64-72 of my 101 Things In 1001 Days list (OK, so it got a small chunk of real estate on the list).  I found a nice “starting point” so-to-speak by way of Fighting The Frump and Drinking More Water in Jessica Know’s 15 New Year’s Resolutions, with which I started my 101 list.

Jessica’s Fighting The Frump article listed a few good, “getting started” tools, such as Self Magazine, Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred, a DaysAgo timer (I remember seeing these introduced on Oprah), and Kellogg’s Special K products.

Personally, I’m starting with Fitness Magazine (the February issue just arrived in my mailbox!) and the All You Health & Fitness Special Edition (Winter 2009).  I’m especially intriqued by the “Lose 10 lbs This Month” and “20 Healthy Meals For Less” cover stories in the Fitness magazine and “20 Ways To Find More Energy Every Day” cover story in the All You magazine.  First, read. Next, act. After devouring these 2 issues, I may check out Jessica’s suggestions as well. Kellogg’s… can your Special K really help (beyond the hype)?

FYI: Fitness magazine has a free online program to compliment the “Lose 10 lbs This Month” article, which I am checking out.

I know that I do not drink anywhere near enough water in a week that I am supposed to drink in one day, so I have a steep hill to climb to get to the point where I drink the amount of water I should each day, so any amount closer to the goal I’m calling a success.  Hopefully, as I add an exercise regiment and healthier eating to my routine, drinking water will just become that much easier.

What are you getting fit goals for the year?  Not just mere resolutions, but actual goals… and plans to meet those goals?

Update: I ordered “30 Day Shred” & am waiting for it to arrive. I haven’t actually started any plan of attack yet, but need to jump on the ball soon.

101 Things In 1001 Days… Starting… NOW!

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

I’ve finally done it!!  I sat down and created a MASSIVE list of 101 things that I want to accomplish over the next 1001 days (2.75 years). I thought that January 1, 2009 would be a perfect opportunity to set it in motion.  I’m sure more things will come up and possibly change over the next almost three years, but as of today, this is my list.  If you are interested in more info about the 101 in 1001, check out Day Zero.

You’ll probably notice that there are 102 items on this list. Yes, I can add and no, I didn’t just add one more for fun, LOL!  #6 and #67 are the same, so there are really only 101 items.

By the way, this list is neither in order of importance nor necessarily in the order I “plan” to complete them.

If you are in the planning mode, you may want to check out Creating A Life Plan (a great concept & very informative), First 30 Days, and 15 NY resolutions (see below).

15 New Years Resolutions

The first 15 items of my 101 list comes from the 15 Days Of New Years Resolutions at Jessica Knows. I thought it would make a nice start to the list of 101 things that I want to accomplish in 1001 days. Thx Jessica.

Fabulous Books, Planning, 1001 In 101

Monday, December 8th, 2008

I picked up a few packages at the Post Office today and opened them up to find three fabulous books…

The Home Book: Creating A Beautiful Home Of Your Own from House Beautiful

I am in love with this book already! 464 pages of design advice and more than 500 stunning color photographs. I have been wanting to go through our home room by room and redecorate – mostly to add color to the overwhelmingly white-white institutional-like walls, lol – but also to add great decorative touches.  I have just found my guide… my muse!  I am sure you’ll be hearing a lot of redecorating from me in 2009 – and probably a lot about this book too!  It truly is fabulous.  I want to devour it, but truly must finish packing for our flight that leaves tomorrow.

O’s Big Book Of Happiness: The Best of O, The Oprah Magazine; Wisdom, Wit, Advice, Interview, and Inspiration

Another fab book I cannot wait to delve into, O’s Big Book Of Happiness addresses three major avenues to a fuller life: Your mind / your body; dating / mating / relating; and dreaming big.  Filled with a wealth of tips for everything from overcoming life’s hardships to turning dreams into reality, O’s Big Book Of Happiness is a comprehensive guide to a happier life.

Both of the above books would be perfectly at home as a coffee table book of someone (or several someones?) on your gift list. Trust me. They are fabulous.

Baby Lists: What To Do and What To Get To prepare For Baby by Elaine Farber

I heart lists. With a passion. I am not currently expecting, but we do hope to add to our family in the near future and I am excited to have this book in hand.  So many lists, so many questions answered, and tons of product links are all included. If you are expecting (or know someone who is), I would highly recommend stuffing this book in their stocking this Christmas. I have added it to my “To Read” list, rather high up the list I might ad.  It is never too early to start planning by way of learning.

Also in today’s mail, though not books…

Kitchens & Baths: A Woman’s Day Special Interest Publication (magazine format) featuring 142 brilliant kitchen makeover ideas.  More ideas for my redecorating mind. I love it! And…

Woman’s Day Magazine, the January 1, 2009 issue featuring 372 big ideas for 2009.

What a serious jackpot I hit today for planning!  I have been hearing a lot about the 101 in 1001 and decided to start it on January 1st – then all of these arrived today! Perfect reinforcement!  My list of 101 in 1001 is barely started, so I’m thinking that will be a great way to pass the time on our 8 hour flight!  I’m taking along the Woman’s Day January issue to check out their ideas and see if anything sounds like it should be on my list too.  ;)   I’d love to bring along the others, but the first two especially are much too heavy!  They’ll have to wait til I return.  I’m very excited about planning… and about embarking on 2009!  I feel great things are in store!!!
