Jacquard Products iDye Prize Package Giveaway #giveaways

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Jacquard Products is giving away a prize pack of eight assorted iDye products to one lucky Shake The Salt reader!

Read a little bit about iDye from Jacquard Products below then find out how you can enter to win!

DIY-ERS BECOME DI-DYERS
iDye from Jacquard Products Transforms Any Laundry Room Into a Color Lab

Whether it’s a rogue red sock that turns a load of whites into a load of pinks, or a dribble of bleach that transforms your favorite top into a dust cloth, there’s an easy fix from Jacquard Products. Their line of iDye products makes altering or removing color from a wide variety of fabrics a walk in the park–or a quick wash in the machine.

To get rich, vibrant colors with iDye just throw the no-mess, completely dissolvable dye packet into the washing machine. Since Jacquard Products has been producing high-quality dyes for close to 30 years, the iDye produces professional-looking, uniform results without the hassle of having to handle messy dye.

Give new life to a washed-out Tee, or change the color of an atrocious bridesmaid dress by following three simple steps to get professional-quality color results. First, drop the dissolvable dye packet into the washing machine, then add the fabric and add either 1 cup of table salt or 1/3 cup of vinegar (depending on the fabric) and run the wash cycle. That’s it. For delicate pieces that wouldn’t normally go in the washing machine, or for the most intense color possible, each iDye packet comes with instructions for a stovetop method, used to ensure a higher temperature than can be achieved with normal hot water, and produces similar results without using the washing machine.

Each $3.59 packet of iDye gives new life to three pounds of cotton, linen, silk or rayon fabrics. It’s available in 30 colors, ranging from lively Sun Yellow and Brilliant Blue to calmer hues like Pumpkin and Lilac.

Follow the same steps to revitalize dingy whites, remove unwanted color stains, or lighten an existing color with iDye Color Remover, also $3.59.

Tricky synthetic materials can even be dyed with Jacquard Products’ iDye Poly. It’s formulated especially for 100% polyester and nylon fabrics, and comes in 8 color variations. Due to the nature of these fabrics, the stovetop method is recommended for the best results for iDye Poly.

Noticing the influx of UV-blocking apparel on the market, Jacquard Products also created an iDye Sun Blocker. So, instead of buying a whole new wardrobe of UV-protected clothing, iDye Sun Blocker provides the same type of protection to existing pieces.  Each packet provides UV protection to up to three pounds of natural fiber clothing, and protects that clothing from becoming bleached by the sun’s rays. Each treatment with iDye Sun Blocker, $3.59, lasts through six to seven washes and is safe to use on colors.

About Jacquard Products

Jacquard Products has been producing professional-quality textile paint and dyes at the best value for surface designers, textile artists, fine artists, hobbyists, and crafters. It has almost 20 color lines, available in standard and bulk sizes, sets, and in easy-to-use kits. Offering the highest quality of dyes and inks that hold fast and color deeply, do-it-yourselfers can bring professional creativity to their home, school, patio or anywhere they wish to create wearable art.

WIN IT!

Seventh Generation Cleaning Products (Review + Giveaway) #giveaways

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Seventh Generation sent over a variety of their cleaning products for me to test out as part of an “under the kitchen sink makeover” promotion and after using their products I have to say I am pleased with the quality and eco-friendliness of their products. I especially love the reusable bag that was sent with the products, because I am now trying to use these as much as possible instead of plastic shopping bags.  I sometimes forget, but I’m getting better.  :)

Seventh Generation has a broad selection of green cleaning products… Carpet Spot & Stain Remover¸ Kitchen Cleaner, Natural All Purpose Cleaner, Natural Glass & Surface Cleaner, Shower Cleaner, Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Tub & Tile Cleaner as well as laundry and dishwashing products.

I had great success with the Seventh Generation White Flower & Bergamot Citrus Natural Carpet Spot & Stain Remover.  We had several old, dark spots on our carpet (between a toddler’s spills, puppy training MIL’s pup, and an outside dog that would come in at night, there were places on the carpet that got some damage).  I used the Natural Carpet Spot & Stain Remover and it either completely removed the dark stains or made them a whole lot lighter (mostly the former).  Some of the spots were resistant and took a little extra product & elbow grease, but the cleaner worked well.  I have an (almost) three year running around these floors, as well as our canine daughter and a cat, so I felt a lot better knowing the cleaner was natural.

If you have never tried Seventh Generation, go print a coupon and give it a try.  I’d love to hear what you thnk!

 Some further information for you…

More than 50% of human poison exposure victims are children younger than six years (American Association of Poison Control Centers) and with 63 hazardous chemical products in the average American household (Consumer Product Safety Commission), it’s no wonder that kids are coming into contact with harmful chemicals on a daily basis at home.

According to a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive and commissioned by Seventh Generation, 70% of parents with kids under six years old store their household cleaning products/solutions under the sink, but 47% cannot name one ingredient in the cleaners that they are using and storing within reach of their children!

Seventh Generation created Health eHome in collaboration with WebMD and Healthy Child Healthy World to provide a personalized educational platform that helps uncover potential dangers and hazards identified as “hot spots in a virtual home. The tool also has an expert blog that provides trusted information on creating a cleaner, greener lifestyle and parents can test the safety of their home by doing a “Health eHome Check,” where they can get personalized results and an action plan for their home.

Plus some Seventh Generation Survey Findings…

Cleaning Your Home or Harboring Hidden Dangers?

More than half of U.S. adults (58%) don’t always check the labels of cleaning products to determine if they contain ingredients that are harmful to their health.

Nearly three in five adults (58%) clean their home by wiping the surfaces with a cleaning solution/product at least once per week, nearly half (47%) can’t name at least one ingredient in those cleaning products.

The majority of people (75%) store their household cleaning products/solutions under the sink, followed by 37% that store their products in the bathroom and 33% in the laundry room.

Sixty-seven percent (67%) of adults believe that companies are required to disclose all of the chemical ingredients contained in their products, which isn’t true.

While more than half of adults believe that household cleaning products (e.g., window cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, kitchen cleaner) cause substantial damage to the environment (53%) and think that if used daily products that contain dyes or fragrances can be harmful to their health (59%), only 21 percent of parents opt for cleaning products with natural ingredients.

Keeping the family safe from harm?

Parents with children under the age of six years clean their home by wiping the surfaces with a cleaning solution/product several times per week (33%) and 27% clean once per day or more, yet 67% inaccurately believe that companies are required to disclose all of the chemical ingredients contained in their products.

One third (33%) of parents believe the kitchen is potentially the most harmful area to their children, while some did not believe any room in their home is harmful to children (16%).

Surprisingly, 70 percent of adults with kids under the age of six years that live in their household store their household cleaning products/solutions under the sink.

Eighteen percent (18%) of parents have not taken steps to safeguard their family from toxic ingredients in some household cleaners.

For those parents who choose to safeguard, opening windows to release toxic fumes is the most popular, with 50% deferring to that method.

While 78% of parents admit that their children know where the cleaning products are stored in the house, only 32% acknowledge they always check the labels to determine if they contain ingredients that are harmful to their families’ health.

Handmade Coupon Organizer Giveaway #giveaways

Monday, June 8th, 2009

How cute are these handmade coupon organizers from Austin Artisian?  Austin Artisian offers two choices of the felt organizers: British Wool felt, the finest wool felt imported from the UK or Recycled ECO-felt, made with 100% recycled plastic bottles.

These would make great gifts for all the ladies you know with birthdays this summer.  It would also be a great way to help someone get started couponing by including a small coupon stash inside!

What prompted you to start your shop? What’s the background, the inspiration?

I love crafting and have always been involved with one art form or another. My mother actually prompted me to open a shop. She is my #1 fan and had been encouraging me to sell on Etsy for awhile.  I fell in love with wool felt awhile back and started out making small bags for family and friends. Then one day I took a good look at my coupon organizer and it was ugly to say the least. I made myself a new one and covered it in my wool felt. I thought, I might have something here. I get my inspiration from everywhere. I can walk into a bakery and think of something I would like to make. I walk outside and get inspired by new flowers blooming. Inspiration is all around us, you just have to stop and take notice.

What was your very first project?

My very first project was a simple little purse I made with my mother’s sewing machine back in middle school. *giggle* I have tried a lot of different art projects, from stained glass to jewelry design, soap making and pottery. I need to have an outlet and art works for me.

Is there something unique about your products vs. your competitors that you’d like readers to know?

My organizers are the perfect fit for your purse so you will always have it with you. That is the biggest challenge with clipping coupons, you can’t use them if you don’t have them. My organizers are a perfect fit for your purse, tote bag, or stashed in the glove compartment. They are super cute, fun to show off and very durable! As one of my customers said, “Perfectly compact, adorable, well-made, and totally necessary.” Everything is hand embroidered & hand cut by me in my studio. I try to make lots of styles so whether you like flowers, birds or tattoos, I will have something just for you!  I embroider and hand stitch all my appliqués directly on the covering so they hold up very well. I don’t take short cuts and I don’t sell anything mama wouldn’t be proud of.

What is the hardest thing about what you do?

There are times when I second guess myself on color combinations or the way something is placed on the organizer. I just try to go with the feeling of the piece and it usually comes out great.

Would you like readers to know anything about you personally?

I am a happy mommy of two small children living in Austin, Texas. Hook ‘em horns! I love treasure hunting at thrift stores, getting the Sunday paper for coupons, COFFEE, gourmet cooking, traveling, gardening and sewing. I have always had a passion for creating art. I love to cook, travel and take care of my wonderful family. I also spend some time blogging and would love to have a few more followers. Read more about the woman behind the craft at:

Betty Crocker The Mixer {Review & Giveaway}

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Betty Crocker sent over a basket of great kitchen tools, I think in anticipation of luring me into a healthier, happier relationship with my kitchen. I love the “stuff”, but the jury is still out on the whole relationship thing. ;)

The Mixer gift basket was filled with a Betty Crocker mixing spoon (and I’m pretty sure it is no longer mine since Lil Roo basically saw it, claimed it, and took off with it. I guess a large red spoon is just cool, LOL!), spatula, silver measuring spoons and cups (which I really like), whisk, plastic liquid measuring cup (basically the same size as the basic glass 1 cup ones, except this measures up to 2 ½ cups which means I won’t have to drag out the huge measuring cup for anything over 1 cup) and a Betty Crocker Magazine (125+ “Easy, Inspiring Ideas” – mostly cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and bars).

I have to say the book / magazine intriques me the most.  Cakes scare the crap out of me, so don’t anticipate me trying any of those out. The other stuff sounds somewhat reasonable, as I much prefer the attempt at baking instead of meal prep. (C’mon, surely you’ve noticed how irregular my attempts at meal planning are? And even when I plan, I don’t always follow the plan.)  There’s a recipe for Sunshine cupcakes that looks really cute and seeing the striking Princess cake (an actual 3D standing up princess) makes me glad at the moment that I do not have a girl. I would really want to make that – and the results could be diseasterous. Just saying.  I’m flipping through the book as I type this and am now having an “oh. my. goodness.” moment as I have found Coffee-Chocolate Chip Bars that look absolutely fab. Maybe I’ll make that my experiement with all my new cool tools and tell you all about it. For humorous purposes I am sure, LOL!

Incidently, the Chirpy Chick Cupcakes I made with Lil Roo for Easter were a Better Crocker recipe and they actually turned out well – until the part about turning them into cute lil chicky looking things. It went downhill from there.

I suppose there is hope for even me, and whether you are where I am or just want to learn a few new tips-n-tricks to add to your already extensive knowledge and expertise in the kitchen (or anywhere in between), you might want to check out the newest thing Miss Betty Crocker has up her sleeve!

Banana Nut Cheerios {Review & Giveaway}

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Good Morning!  I’m starting my day off with the new Banana Nut Cheerios – yum!  Cheerios has always been a family staple with us.  For as long as I can remember, I saw my dad start every day, almost without fail, with a bowl of Cheerios and the newspaper (and to this day, he still loves his Cheerios!).  In fact, he often added slices of bananas to his, so I suspect he is really going to love this newest selection from Cheerios!  When my son moved past pureed baby food and on to more solid foods, Cheerios was (and still is) our top snack choice.

I haven’t always made the healthiest choices for myself though. I like lots of flavor and have quite the sweet tooth (shhh), so I was very excited to try out the new Banana Nut Cheerios.  It certainly doesn’t lack in the “full of flavor” department!  I’m now torn between the Multigrain Cheerios (which I also love) and the Banana Nut Cheerios (but since I usually stock up during “buy one get one free” sales, I’ll probably just get both!).

Banana Nut Cheerios® combines the whole grain goodness of Cheerios® with the great taste of real banana - a breakfast your whole family will love! Even better, Banana Nut Cheerios® cereal is a good source of calcium and Vitamin D, and is made with whole grain. It may reduce the risk of heart disease as part of a heart healthy diet.* Visit Banana Nut Cheerios for discount coupons, great recipes and additional information.

*Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease.

General Mills sent over a box of Banana Nut Cheerios, two cereal bowls, a fruit basket with banana tree, and a loaf pan for making banana nut bread.  I’ve pretty much polished off the cereal, lol, and will be making use of that loaf pan very soon (we love banana nut bread! Anyone have any great recipes?).

I want you to do a taste test of the newest Cheerios flavor… and General Mills does too!  They have generously provided three gift packages as a giveaway!

Yoplait YoPlus Blueberry Acai Yogurt {Review & Giveaway}

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

I’ve “heard” about digestive yogurts, and to be honest, they just didn’t have a “yum” sound to it, so I admit I was a little leery of giving it a taste test.  Not only did I have concerns about the taste of digestive yogurt, but I was never able to eat a lot of yogurt in one sitting.

I cautiously gave the new Yoplait YoPlus Blueberry Acai Yogurt a taste test…

I have a new midnight snack.

A healthy midnight snack. {Next step is not eating at midnight, lol.}  Not only is it very tasty, but they come in 4 oz cups, which I love.  In addition to tasting yummy and coming in a perfect size cup, they have many other wonderful benefits:

Yo-Plus contains special probiotic cultures and fiber to help naturally regulate your digestive health.

Yo-Plus is a good source of vitamin A, vitamin D, and calcium.

Yo-Plus has the rich, creamy, taste of Yoplait.

Each cup has 110 calories (only 10 from fat), 1.5g of fat, and 4 grams of protein. Score!

Don’t just take my word for it, though – try it for yourself!

Yo-Plus Yogurt, $1.98 @ Walmart

$1.50/1 printable coupon (You can print 2!)

Only $0.48 after coupon!

I also have THREE pretty awesome Yoplait gift packs to give away.  Included in the Yoplait gift pack is a zippered insulated bag (which would be great as a grocery bag for your cold items), a water bottle, a nutrition journal, and a coupon for a FREE package of Yoplait YoPlus Blueberry Acai Yogurt.

To enter, leave a comment telling me about your current health goals (can be long term or short term) and how Yoplait YoPlus Blueberry Acai Yogurt can help you reach those goals.

Kick Off Spring With Clorox Wipes {Review & Giveaway}

Friday, March 20th, 2009

As I mentioned earlier, I started the afternoon of the first day of spring by cleaning the dust and mess off my desk.  I’d like to say it took A WHILE, but truthfully? Only a couple of minutes. I removed most everything, cleaned and organized and put it back.

My tools: a stackable letter tray system, a penholder, a medium binder clip, and Clorox Disinfecting Wipes.

The letter trays hold important papers, spiral notebooks (I have 3 main ones I use All. The. Time.), and blank printer paper.  The penholder obviously corrals a few pens, highlighters, and a pair of scissors.  The binder clip holds together loose papers so they aren’t all over the place. I’ve been known to get a little obsessed with binder clips, shhhh, but as for now I’m only using one.

And the Clorox Disinfecting Wipes? They made cleaning the desk effortless.  Seriously. And they have new, wide, decorative containers, so it isn’t such an eyesore if you want to leave it out.  Mine is on my desk for a quick wipe up at the end of the evening – something I was a stickler for back in my 9-5 days & a habit I want to resurrect.

Clorox Disinfecting Wipes new Décor canisters:

* Come in eight unique color palettes to match any home décor

* Feature a sleek new shape and wider mouth

* Have a new effortless single sheet dispensing system

* Has the same disinfecting power of their namesake wipes

* Are fashionable enough to be left on the countertop

* Available at retailers nationwide

Don’t take my word for it though – try them for yourself.  I have TEN up for grabs! Enter to win by leaving a comment telling me how’d you use them (get creative!).

A Moment For Me: All About Taking Time For Yourself Plus A Giveaway

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Hi there!  Busy day today, so this is a little late getting posted. I’ll make it up to ya though with a little giveaway.  Read on for details. J

How was your week?  Did you remember to take some time to do something special for yourself (read a book, get your nails done, relax)?

This past week, I took a small step to fight the frump, courtesy of a little dab of lip gloss. I got a sweet little package a few days ago and inside were a couple of tubes of Skinn by Dimitri James Wet Lips Super Shine lip gloss. I have to admit, when I’m just hanging around the house (and as a stay-at-home / work-at-home mom I do that quite a lot, LOL!) I tend to dress comfy & casual and don’t do the makeup. Anyone else?

Well, when the package arrived, I decided to test it out and I have to admit that just a tiny tint of color from the lip gloss created a nice little boost in the way I was feeling. It didn’t cause me to go full gusto on the makeup, but it was nice, because I did it just for me.

By joining in the meme this week (blog about your “Moment For Me” and link to it with the Mr. Linky below or simply leave a comment telling us about it), you will be enter to win one of six Skinn by Dimitri James Wet Lips Super Shine lip gloss.

For an extra entry, Stumble this post & leave a comment letting me know.

Winners will be announced in next week’s “A Moment For Me” post.
